Born in 1985, Gökmen lives and works in Frankfurt. He is currently a Bard Milton-Avery MFA candidate in Sculpture at Bard College, and also a student at the Städelschule.

He is interested in the discourses, objects, and narratives that use the presumed authority of historical precedence to codify and structure the present through rewriting the past. His works question the inherent politics of existing codification mechanisms through considering the ways they include or exclude certain parts of the past and their current ramifications.
